Bunker gear is the last line of defense for your personal protection. What do you want between you and the burn unit? There are many technology improvements in PPE. How do you understand, select and utilize these options. Choosing the right combination is imperative to the success of your firefighters. This class will cover the many technologies out there for textile fabrics and other protective technologies built into the modern bunker gear. We will cover physiological impacts, addressing cancer protection, balancing thermal protection with breathability and dexterity and much more. We will present different types of gear and fabrics from across the industry from multiple companies. We will cover head to toe and help you wade through the gimmicks to get to the truly protective and worthwhile technology to optimize your PPE.

    Webster Marshall

    Firefighter, Gwinnett County Fire Services

    Webster has been a firefighter since 2001. He started his career in Baldwin County as a volunteer/part-time firefighter. He then was full time in Putnam County as a Firefighter and Training Officer until 2012 when he started with Gwinnett County Fire Services. There he is on the Technical Rescue Team at station 24 and is also a member of Task Force 7 in GSAR. He has held position of recruit training instructor and serves on many committees in Gwinnett such as the Research and Development Committee. Most recently Webster serves as the Southeastern Regional Director as well as the PPE and Technology Research Coordinator for the Fire Fighter Cancer Foundation. He has held these two positions since 2014.
